This guide is built on public datasets and on images under a Creative Commons licence or in the public domain. Below, first where the data come from, and then the full list of photographs, giving the author, the licence and the source page for each file. The guide is non-commercial; licences that forbid adaptation (ND) are not used.

Where the data come from

The guide rests on a handful of public datasets. They are gathered here, with what each contributes.

• Plants of the World Online (POWO), Kew

accepted names, synonyms and authors; the guide follows POWO where sources disagree

• World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP)

the data behind POWO; the distribution per TDWG region comes from here, with the native or introduced note

• GBIF

the route by which WCVP and the Red List were fetched, and the check on the names

• IUCN Rode Lijst

the threat category; a good number of carnivorous plants have not been assessed, and the guide says so

• CITES

the appendix a species is listed in; for Nepenthes, Sarracenia and Dionaea that is no detail

• World Geographical Scheme for Recording Plant Distributions (tdwg/wgsrpd)

the division into 369 regions to which POWO ties a species' distribution (native/introduced); the map itself has been drawn from Natural Earth since 25 Sep

• Natural Earth

the coastlines, the country borders and the state, territory and region borders on which the distribution map is drawn, at 1:10 million scale. Public domain.

• International Carnivorous Plant Society

the checklist of carnivorous plants, as a second opinion on which species belong here

• Wikimedia Commons

the images, together with iNaturalist; only CC0, public domain, CC BY and CC BY-SA
