Rainbow plant family · 8 in this guide
Substrate
Two parts sand to one part peat, optionally with an extra part perlite, lava rock or pumice — never substitute the sand with perlite. Always use a pot with drainage.
Pot
Plastic; the annual, taprooted species do better in a deeper pot, while the perennial species can go in a shallower one.
Water
Tray method, evenly moist but not permanently waterlogged. If desired, feed lightly once a month via the leaves (not the soil) with a seaweed-based fertiliser.
Location and light
Full to part sun.
Temperature
Heat-loving, and best in a terrarium or on a warm, bright spot during the warm months; no dry summer dormancy needed, unlike the Australian *Drosera*.
