Penduline tits | Remizidae
Buidelmezen | Pájaros moscones
Very small birds with a fine, sharply pointed conical bill for picking small insects, spiders and seeds from reed, willow and poplar. The family's hallmark is the nest: a hanging purse of plant down and spider silk felted around drooping twigs, with a short spout entrance at the side, so nothing can reach it from below. Such a nest may take weeks to build, yet the brood is usually raised by one parent alone, the other leaving to start again elsewhere. The voice is a thin, high whistle that is easily overlooked.
